THE FIVE HEROES
Justice
Will Prevail
in
Our Cause THE CUBAN FIVE PERHAPS SAVED
MANY AMERICAN LIVES The most tragic
aspect of all
this for the US people is
that while Pesquera and his troops were
maliciously devoting all their time to
the persecution, arrest and rigging of
the trial of the Cubans, no less than 14
of the 19 responsible for the September
11 attacks on New York's Twin Towers and
other targets were living and training
exactly in the area for which Pesquera
was responsible. Who are the Cuban Five?
Why are they imprisoned in the United
States? Civil rights attorney Leonard Weinglass represents Antonio Guerrero,
one of the five Cuban prisoners unjustly
incarcerated in the U.S. for defending
their homeland. As the legal team and
supporters of the Five awaited the 11th
Circuit Court of Appeals' decision on
the case, Socialism and Liberation's Ian
Thompson interviewed Weinglass about the
Cuban Five and the importance of the
case for the U.S. and Cuba. Today we
present first fragment of this
interview. "The Symbol of our National
Identity is these Five Men" The Cuban
writer Roberto Ferández Retamar, who is
president of the Havana literary and art
center, La Casa de las Americas, said
recently that when talking of true
heroism the Cuban Five indeed can be
called symbols of Cuban national
identity. They are men who have carried
out and continue to build the Island's
Revolution.
